My Students
Our students are creative, thoughtful and full of questions! They absolutely love hands-on, active, engaging projects and challenges that allow them to think outside the box to find solutions! They come to school each day ready to try new things and take brave chances in order to grow both personally and academically. How awesome is that!
Curious, enthusiastic, creative, and artistic, our students are eager to immerse themselves in any kind of challenge.
They love learning! Our kids are truly an incredible group, and I am so lucky and thankful to have a new group of learners who are excited and ready to learn each year!
My Project
Children have much to say to the world. And nothing says more than a picture - it's worth a thousand words - right? But just how many words would a picture be worth if it was accompanied by music? Our school is an Arts Academy - grades four through eight. Students who go to this school choose an art to study - we have choir, instruments, theatre, art, and dance.
Can you imagine the power behind the message if these arts were merged to share a message of hope, or inspiration, or indignation, or pride, or loss, or peace?
With photography, that can be achieved. Students would use the Cannon IS digital camera to tell a story. To record an injustice. To capture harmony. To touch a heart, spark a thought, inspire an action.
These stories would be framed by the musical talents at our school.
Imagine the pain of illiteracy captured by shots of homeless students accompanied by the choir singing, "Summertime" from Porgy and Bess.
Imagine the sound of the theatre class reciting MLK's "I Have a Dream" surrounding the photos a student took of examples of racial harmony on our campus.
Imagine a photo of a student planting a sapling from her wheelchair while our own instrumental jazz ensemble plays, "What a Wonderful World". Children have so much to say, help them say it beautifully in an unforgettable manner.
