This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Our school is located in a large urban city. Our teachers and staff provide a safe and fun learning environment. There are many experiences for all to have, but many students stay within our area. Most parents are immigrants. They are hardworking, caring, and involved. Our school is Title I, forty percent English Learners, and all kids receive free lunch.

My students are creative and come to school every day ready to learn.

We are a bilingual English/Spanish class. Kids love readers and writers workshop as well as anything to do with math and science. We work on projects through the year that incorporate classroom presentations and parent participation.

My Project

This year we have read the collection of Mercy Watson Books by Kate DiCamillo.

I want to give them some books from the collection to have and reread this summer!

Many of my students are now able to read independently and this will be a set of books they will love having at home! I want to also add other titles that they can read for the first time and continue their love of reading. This year has been tough, but having fun characters to read about has motivated many of my students.
