My students need these wonderful mentor texts, such as Come on, Rain and Henry's Freedom Box: A True Story from the Underground Railroad to help guide them in their own writing.
Some people can only go to the store and buy books by their favorite authors, but not me! I am so fortunate, I get to not only read stories and books as soon as they are written, but I also get to help my favorite authors write their stories too!
My favorite authors are of course my fourth grade students who never cease to amaze me with their imaginations and creativity!
They get their inspiration through many mentor texts that we read every single day in our classroom. After all, reading and writing go hand-in-hand.
My Project
Language Arts is without a doubt one of my favorite subjects to teach to my fourth grade class! My language arts block revolves around the workshop method in both reading and writing.
The materials requested will be used as mentor texts to be read aloud during the mini-lesson portion of workshop.
These mentor texts inspire students to use real authors' crafts in their own pieces of writing. The books will also be used to teach grammar by pulling out mentor sentences for the students to focus on specific parts of speech. The uses of these books span across the curriculum and is invaluable!
A wide variety of books in the classroom library is essential in order for students to become the authors they are truly meant to be! Without the opportunity to read good quality literature, students have no idea how to write like real authors. Complete immersion is the key to literacy success!
