This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
At our high school, we recognize the critical importance of mental health for our students, particularly those from Black and Latino families where stigmas about mental health can be prevalent. Our project, "Mentally Fit in Our Room," aims to create a nurturing and comfortable space where students can focus on their mental well-being.
Mental health is a vital component of overall health, yet it is often overlooked, especially in minority communities.
By addressing these stigmas head-on, we hope to educate and support our students and their families. In our classroom, students will have access to a serene environment where they can listen to calming meditations, which are proven to reduce stress and anxiety.
The room will also feature a dedicated coloring area, as coloring has been shown to help alleviate anxiety and promote mindfulness. Additionally, we will provide sensory stickers and fidget toys to help students manage their stress in a tactile way. Our collection of books on mental health will serve as educational resources, promoting awareness and understanding among students and their families.
Creating a space where students can become mentally fit is crucial for their success both in and out of the classroom. Our motto, "Strong Minds, Good Hearts," encapsulates our belief that fostering mental wellness leads to a more compassionate and resilient student body.
