My Students

Albert Einstein quotes, "The mind that opens to a new idea never returns to its original size." Therefore, my goal is to provide my diverse learners with meaningful projects and instructional resources to address the disabilities that impede their learning, such as attention deficit, dyslexia, social-emotional, and autism. Their past experiences of failure in school have outweighed their successes as they also deal with socioeconomic ills within their communities, making the burden to learn more difficult.

Nevertheless, despite their circumstances, my students are inquisitive, creative, hopeful, and eager to come to school- their haven; therefore, they know that their teacher holds their minds dear to her heart and will continue to discover innovative ways to challenge them to think and learn!

Aligning each student to the appropriate instructional resources, my students can grasp concepts through a combination of visual stimuli and usage of hands-on materials, as well as respond to intervention through interactive, arts-infused, project-based, hands-on learning activities. With time and investment in exploring how they learn, my students will leave my classroom with a newfound growth mindset!

My Project

I am a Diverse Learner and Social-Emotional Learning Educator. In these roles, I work with students with special needs, enhancing their academic endeavors as well as teaching my scholars to become socially competent. Per the pandemic, recognizing and coping with trauma has been at the forefront of teaching as the arts are therapeutic in helping students to deal with life's situations beyond their control.

Soon, our class will be engaging in a podcast to voice their thoughts and triumphs amidst a health crisis coupled with community violence.

Given that my scholars learn not only auditory, but through visual resources, we are replacing a classroom camera that has become inoperable as my scholars not only want to tell but "show" that their stories matter.

The Canon EOS RP - digital camera RF 24-105mm will allow for hands-on experience with camera operation. Students will be able on roles as director, set designer, and photography supervisor.

This camera was selected as it has similar specs as our previous camera and is now combined with a protection plan to ensure the longevity and fulfillment of our project.

Thank you for your generosity as giving students a voice and choice to speak up and tell their stories supports mental and health wellness. Teaching to the heart and mind goes hand in hand!
