My Students

Albert Einstein quotes, "The mind that opens to a new idea never returns to its original size." Therefore, my goal is to provide my diverse learners with meaningful projects and instructional resources to address the disabilities that impede their learning, such as attention deficit, dyslexia, social-emotional, and autism. Their past experiences of failure in school have outweighed their successes as they also deal with socioeconomic ills within their communities, making the burden to learn more difficult.

Nevertheless, despite their circumstances, my students are inquisitive, creative, hopeful, and eager to come to school- their haven; therefore, they know that their teacher holds their minds dear to her heart and will continue to discover innovative ways to challenge them to think and learn!

Aligning each student to the appropriate instructional resources, my students can grasp concepts through a combination of visual stimuli and usage of hands-on materials, as well as respond to intervention through interactive, arts-infused, project-based, hands-on learning activities. With time and investment in exploring how they learn, my students will leave my classroom with a newfound growth mindset!

My Project

Students have returned to the classroom after nearly two years of a health crisis that changed our world and transformed education. Most of our resources were discarded or no longer usable as a result of Covid. Thus, I am rebuilding my classroom back to a welcoming and warm environment that supports mental wellness for my wonderful diverse learners with special needs (academic and social-emotional).

I have reached into my own pockets to initially recreate the "look and feel" of a classroom that makes my students feel valued, open to learning and possessing some sense of normalcy.

I want to ensure that our classroom environment is not only print-rich, but has the resources to encourage students to build a love for reading and listen to stories that will help build their reading skills while making them feeling comfortable learning in their new classroom space! My students have engaged with books online as opposed to the aesthetics of embracing and interacting with books in their hands! Their fingers will glide through pages and track words as the stories are read to them; thus increasing fluency, comprehension, and expression.

What a joy it is to sit on a soft surface, relax and open your mind to books that will take their minds on various, fun-filled fantasies and journeys about the world! The Comfy Couch Listening Center is the perfect space to add to our classroom library! I can not wait to photograph the smiles of my students sitting, listening, reading, and learning!
