This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

This past school year our school funded an extra program to teach students dance, yoga, and meditation. We couldn't use the gym or dance room because they were already scheduled with other programs. We taught them in a regular classroom with small portable mirrors on the linoleum floor. It was less than ideal. Our population is comprised of the ESOL students in our high school from all over the world. We taught middle eastern ethnic dances, but we want to have our students share more of their dances, including salsa and Ukranian dance. We built a support system for our students that they deeply needed, giving them a safe space to express themselves. Many of our students and have stressful lives. We want to expand our program to include regular yoga and meditation classes for their mental and physical health. We want to have fun while providing them with positive coping skills to incorporate into their lives. We need a floor mirror with a stand, foam floor tiles, and yoga mats to help improve our program.
