it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
My favorite moments of my day often come from greeting my students during their recess and lunch times. Whether they come and share an act of kindness between one another or seeking out some support during a disagreement between classmates, I enjoy the opportunities to build our school community. With one psychiatric social worker to approximately 370 students, I do not have the capacity to provide individual counseling to each and every student.
With a mobile counseling cart, my hope is to help promote self-regulation strategies (name your emotions mirror, visual sensory toys to practice mindfulness), social skills and kindness with my students on a wider scale.
My students have shown their enthusiasm to participate in school wide activities this year, particularly with the opportunity to earn a prizes. The sensory toys (ex. pop-its, squishies, stress balls) and stickers would serve as prizes for student that choose to participate during their unstructured time. Additional materials such as laminating sheets, and clothes pins would help with making reusable worksheets and ability for students to identify and share their social emotional needs with myself and others.
