This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
The students at this school are bright, creative, and full of energy. They come to school each day to learn despite the many obstacles they face each day. The students at this school are from diverse backgrounds, some are first-generation immigrants, and some have multiple layers of trauma at a young age. My hope is to address their mental health needs and provide them with the tools they need to be successful students.
My Project
These materials will help me to create a welcoming, all-inclusive environment where students can come to share their thoughts and feelings. Many of the students we serve have endured multiple traumas and need a safe space to share what they are feeling. Students need to feel supported and cared for and heard. When students come to my office, they share sensitive information about themselves and their families and need to feel safe and secure before doing so.
To support my students, I use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) to change negative thinking patterns and negative behavior patterns.
I hope students will gain valuable, positive, coping skills and be successful students in and out of school.
