My Project
One health issue commonly addressed is the mental health of students, including anxiety, stress, and depression. Therapy dogs contribute to overall stress reduction and the promotion of a positive school climate. We are looking to fund the purchase of a trained therapy dog to work fulltime at our high school. Therapy dogs can help alleviate exam-related stress, peer pressure, and the general challenges that students face. The presence of therapy dogs in schools fosters a nurturing and supportive atmosphere, which can have a positive impact on students' emotional well-being and overall health.
One of the mental health resources that the International Academy is seeking to bring to the school community is a therapy dog.
Our students engage in a rigorous International Baccalaureate (IB) diploma and are often under quite a bit of stress in order to achieve their academic and personal goals. Every student in our school is on the IB track which contributes to a lot of academic stressors which could be alleviated from a full time therapy dog.
Therapy dogs are being used in schools to address a variety of health issues, primarily focusing on promoting emotional well-being and providing support to students. Interacting with therapy dogs can help reduce these symptoms by providing comfort, companionship, and a sense of security. Additionally, therapy dogs in schools can benefit students with learning disabilities and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) which many of our students deal with. Interacting with dogs can improve concentration, attention span, and focus, leading to better academic performance and engagement in the classroom.
We are looking to hire a fulltime therapy dog that will already come to us fully trained and will be hosted by one of our school counselors.
