Menstruation Station

Help me give my students what they need to see it through the day. Some students have no preparation or for their changing bodies. The Menstrual All in ONE and HER-MINE kit will provide them a safety net.

My Project

Middle School students are the Best! Caught in a world between childhood and adulthood, many do not know how to navigate through these rough waters.

Many young girls come to school unprepared for the changes that their bodies will go through and many lack the tools to be able to converse with their parents about their bodies and its changes.

Many parents are also ill-equipped to handle sensitive topics. This provides safety net for students. We know that girls are reaching menses at a much earlier age and we know that not having feminine products is one of the main reason worldwide that girls do not attend schools.

Thanks to Donors Choose for the past four years I have been able to provide a Menstruation Station on our campus. It is a known site which has been supported by the P.E. department who makes the flyers to distribute throughout campus and by the nurse who welcomes the respite from having to deal with this common situation in the midst of providing services to 2,000 students. When a young unfamiliar woman approaches my classroom door, the students automatically point her in the direction of the station - no judgment, no giggles, which speaks to how it has affected all students!

Our school is an inner city school and some of our students live in shelters or away from their parents. This station by providing underwear and deodorant is a life saver. Even young men come to get deodorant. Every year we combine our efforts with a one warm coat drive to provide additional security to those students most in need. Even though the California government says these products should be available free of charge throughout the state. They are not. Keep the Menstruation Station flowing with needed supplies. Thanks
