My students need an Epson Home Cinema projector, inflatable movie screen, and DVD player in order to provide free community events so that they can have something positive to focus on in the midst of all of the chaos.

My Students

Our middle school is a Title 1 school with over 80% of its students having free or reduced lunch. I am the AVID elective teacher at NMS. AVID's mission is to close the achievement gap by preparing all students for college readiness and success in a global society. AVID students tend to be from socioeconomically disadvantaged families and will be the first in their families to attend college. AVID aims at bringing the student who is in the academic middle, placing them in rigorous, college-preparatory classes, and teaching them the skills they will need to be successful in college and in their future careers.

My Project

Who doesn't love movies? Whether it is at home on comfort of your couch or at the local theater, movies are a way for families to spend time together and bond. You may have noticed Sheldon ISD making national headlines these last few weeks with the amount of flooding that our community has faced. Not only have many of our campuses flooded, but a majority our students homes were taken by flood waters as well. In this time of need, we would like to not only give our students the ability to have something positive to focus on, but also their families. This is a time where we need to mend out community and refocus on our bond. An outdoor theater system would allow us to host family events to bring our community together and provide a positive environment for our families in this difficult time. It is important for our families to know that we will always be here for them. At NMS... regardless if you are a student, a member of the faculty, a parent, or a sibling, you are a member of our Stallion family... We are SHELDON STRONG.
