This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My class is made up of 15 full-day Pre-K students, with and without disabilities. It is a diverse group of children of different races and ethnicities. All of my students come from low-income families, each from the city of Springfield. Preschool is a child's first school experience into the world of education and my goal is to lay the foundation for a love for learning. At this time, we are transitioning back into the classroom after a short Summer break. I want to ensure my students can work and learn in the classroom safely with as many individual materials as possible. Personalized and individualized materials will ensure the safety of the learning environment, as well as teach students how to become responsible for their own materials.
It's as easy as 1,2,3!
Studies show that young children learn best while working with hands on materials. Allowing each student to have their own set of manipulatives allows them enough time and exposure to master their skills. Children can and will do amazing things once given the opportunity to do so!
My Project
Back to school and into the unknown! We are getting ready to begin another school year where it is most beneficial for students to have access to their own individual materials within the classroom. With these materials I will be able to create math based learning boxes for students to have their own manipulatives and their own place to store them for fun and quick access. Students will use these learning boxes during whole group and small group learning experiences.
One for you and one for me!
When students all have the opportunity to follow along with the teacher with their own materials, it provides an exciting and interactive experience for children as they learn. Easy accessible storage boxes also supports a smoother transition into the learning space, especially for my young learners.
All of these manipulatives will support math topics that the children will work on all year. Patterning, counting, sorting, and early addition/subtraction lessons/skills can all be differentiated through the use of the math manipulatives provided by funding this project.
