Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Our school is comprised of our city’s most talented young people and dedicated teachers and staff. We take great pride in the rigor of our curriculum, the quality of our instruction, and the performance of our students. Our students are serious scholars who sometimes forget how to have fun.

Our students come into the building ready and willing to stretch their mind and embrace the knowledge the world has to offer.

They are excited to be in school and look forward to each days challenges. My students enjoy being challenged and love challenging their teachers. They not only question everything they seek out and find the answers. Our students, for lack of a better word, are exceptional. While our students are serious scholars they are very involved in all aspects of school. They belong to various clubs in the school, are involved in athletics, and tap into the creative minds through the arts. They are on their way to becoming well rounded and productive members of society.

My Project

Our students take their education and their future very seriously, something a bit to serious. The focus mainly on the academics of reading and forget that it can and should be fun. This year we have added a graphic novel and manga section to our library but because school funding is limited we were only able to start out with a handful of titles. The few we purchased have been a huge success. Students are able to enjoy reading for reading's sake and because of their format they are a quick read and students don't feel that they are taking away from their studies. Little do they know that with their complex story lines and vocabulary they are still learning.

This project will make a difference because it will bring back the joy of reading to our students without the guilt.

Books such as Fairy Tales, Attack on Titan, and Assassination Classroom are great ways for out students to continue reading for pleasure without them feeling they are taking away to much time from their studies. It opens new adventures and another way to connect on a social level.
