Meeting Sensory Needs

Help me give my students the best tools to address their sensory needs. By using the Spin Disc, Sensory Tent, and Liquid Tiles students will be able to restore focus and self-regulate during the school day.

My Project

According to the National Autism Resources website, sensory rooms can be used to reduce stress, anxiety, and repetitive behaviors. They can also be used to increase motivation, learning, and interaction. The Spin Disc, Liquid Tiles, and Sensory Tent from this grant will be added to our sensory room and accessible to all students in our school and will aid teachers in helping students learn to self-regulate.

Now, more than ever, teachers are faced with the challenge of helping students identify when they may be feeling anxious or overwhelmed, advocate for themselves, and then appropriately self-regulate and recover.

The items in this grant will be tools to help this process. If students are overwhelmed or anxious they are not in a spot to learn. Once students are self-regulated, then this can lead to increased engagement in the academic tasks at hand.

Our teachers have a heart for teaching children more than just the state standards. We want to be sure we are doing everything we can to help our students be strong individuals, and this begins with meeting their sensory needs with tools like the Spin Disc, Liquid Tiles, and Sensory Tent.
