My Project
My goal for this project is to enhance the calm space in the library with additional fidgets and refocus objects to meet the social and emotional needs for all the students in grades 3-6. Some of the items like the calm ball and the rock stacking game will be for the quiet independent area for use by students who need some private refocus time. Other items, such as the marble mazes and calm strips will allow multiple students an outlet while working at group tables on assignments.
What I love about my students is how their individuality shines through in the library.
SEL fidgets will help each one be a more successful learner because they can regulate their energy or stress in a positive way.
The teachers in our school and district have been implementing SEL work into homerooms for a while. It’s time for the library to offer a calming space within the larger library space to reflect the value of whole child education.
