Our room has a diverse group of learners. The learning backgrounds of each student varies, as well as the support they receive from home. Our school is in a rural, farming community. My room has students who are academically at a 4th-grade level and also has some still learning their sounds. This can create quite a challenge.
Meeting together as a group is an important way we begin each day.
This sets the mood for our day and how we get mentally prepared for our day of learning.
My Project
We gather together every morning to start our day off. Having an organized place to sit will help manage who sits next to each other. At our morning meetings we talk about the calendar, what will be going on during the day and week, and count our days in school.
Students also join together at the carpet to read together.
Giving them a fun and comfortable place to do this would hopefully be more motivating for them. Not only will they read at the carpet, we will also begin our math and reading lessons together. This carpet will make it easier to monitor who each student will be sitting by.
