Meeting All Kinds of Friends

My students need a class visit from NYC Kids Project to help them learn about what makes different people special.

FULLY FUNDED! Ms. Smirk's classroom raised $573

My Students

Four and five year olds rarely judge people by what they see but they always have questions about it.

There are 18 energetic three and four-year-old children in my class.

Our school includes students from Pre-k to eighth grade. It is in a high poverty area, and about 95% of the students in the school receive free lunch. Our school is in a low-income neighborhood, where the budget cuts have left no hope that materials will be purchased in the near future.

My Project

I’d like to bring a NYC Kids Project puppet show about Making Friends to the PreK and kindergarten classes at my school. NYC Kids Project is a social justice organization that provides performances and classroom experiences using puppets, sign language, and adaptive equipment while focusing on character development, anti-bullying issues, and the experiences children with disabilities and differences go through on a daily basis.

The NYC Kids Project will teach my students about children with disabilities and the things they use to help them live a full life.

Our school has a new special education program in our building. Some of the students in this program are dealing with severe handicaps and I hope this class visit will help our students understand the students in that program better.
