My students need volleyballs and travel ball bags for practice and preparation for games, as well as a place to store the balls when traveling to game locations.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I have the great privilege of teaching Kindergarten, as well as coaching our 7th & 8th Grade volleyball team. Many of my volleyball players are trying to play competitive volleyball for the first time in their lives. They love the challenge that a new sport gives them. I feel so fortunate to teach boys and girls who just want to learn how to play and be part of a team. Together, we learn about teamwork and a positive work ethic.
I teach at a Title I School in Nevada in which a high percentage of my students come from bilingual homes and receive free or reduced price lunch.
My students often face tough obstacles in their lives but arrive at school smiling and ready to learn. They love their teachers and they adore our principal. Our school truly is a community – a family. We each do our part as student and teacher work side by side with one mission in mind: our students’ success. Each classroom in our school has their college graduation date written on the board. We help the students set their goals high and we strive to help them exceed all expectations.
My Project
This project will have an immediate impact on our practices, our players' development, and our ability to compete in games. These student athletes will be more prepared than ever before to play if they are able to practice with volleyballs, as well as travel with them. With more volleyballs, each player will have a ball to practice their serves, setting, and bumping. With the setting grips, it will help all players learn how to properly set, and to not use their palms. The ball bags and traveling ball cart will allow us to bring our balls with us to games and get the proper amount of practice in, while holding each other responsible for all volleyballs going to and from locations. All of these different needs will truly change the success of the players because they will all have a greater chance at becoming stronger and better volleyball players with more supplies, and the ability to continuously practice.
Having enough balls for the whole team will help the players stay engaged, get plenty of practice, and be able to consistently keep practice bumping, setting, spiking, and serving.
I am sure we will see improvement in attitudes and abilities of these student athletes. This project will also provide us the ability to travel with the balls to ensure volleyball team is ready for practices and all games.
