My Students

As students in a school marked as high poverty, my students face many challenges to learning both in the classroom and at home. Despite these challenges, my students love to learn. They are eager learners and seek to meet the challenges I place before them daily. While they work hard everyday to meet the rigorous goals of first grade, they also challenge me. They are an active group that has challenged me to adapt my teaching style to the methods through which they best learn. My students need a functional and organized classroom that will help them learn to function both in the classroom and society.

My Project

My first grade classroom centers around the classroom meeting place. We read, sing, and learn together in this space. Our current carpet is old, stained and falling apart. It does not create the warm and inviting group area that we need. We are in desperate need of a new rug!

The beautiful rug we have chosen will create a space that the children will look forward to coming to throughout the day.

It has spots that are well defined to help children find their space who may struggle with self-regulation. I look forward to building our entire classroom around this beautiful rug!
