Can you imagine the first time you walked through your Kindergarten classroom door? Now imagine if you spoke limited English or no English at all. The students that will enter through my Kindergarten door are these students.
I will be returning to the classroom after 10 years of being an Instructional Coach for my District.
Kindergarten is my first love and I am excited about returning! During the 10 years I have been out of the classroom my District has seen a tremendous rise in our EL population. This year I am teaching EL Kindergarten in a Title I school. My school consists of approximately 700 students. 23-25 of those will be in my classroom. We are considered Title I due to 95% of our population participates in the Free/ Reduced School lunch Program and about 26% are enrolled as English as a Second Language students.
My goal is to create a community in my classroom where all students feel safe, therefore allowing them to take risks they would typically not take. By taking those risks, feeling comfortable and safe, the students should be able to meet District and State benchmarks with my guidance.
My Project
The classroom rug will create our meeting place for learning. This meeting place will help create our caring community by giving us a set location for our daily meetings, reading, and other activities to help my students grow. The classroom meeting spot is vital to their social and emotional growth as well.
Your donation will make a difference because we will have a comfortable, colorful, and cozy spot in our room for learning.
This gathering spot will be helpful while they learn how to communicate, calculate, read, and become great citizens!
