Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students come from low economic backgrounds where their neighborhood is surrounded by negativity, crime, and violence. Somehow my students manage to come to school every day despite their current urban surroundings.

My school is a safe haven for all the children in the community where they can come and feel safe and know that each person in the building loves each of them whole-heartedly.

The majority of my students are more than two grade levels behind and need additional material in order to build them up to their rightful grade level. We currently have about 50% of our students who reside in homeless shelters nearby. Based on the current data, students require additional phonics practice to build them up to their current grade level.

My Project

By donating folding nap mats and sheet covers for the mats students in Pre-K will be able to take their daily naps comfortably everyday while in school. Students will also be able to practice their SEL skills while listening to meditation music and their teachers speaking positive words of affirmation during this time as well. Student will be able to relax comfortably while on their sleeping mats and think positive thoughts and find their inner zen (peace). This will promote positive thinking and self-regulating as the teacher will walk around and speak positive words through out the daily SEL activities.
