My Project
My AP English Language students need to read, discuss, and write about a huge variety of non-fiction texts. These beautifully written and important books, which students will select to read in book clubs during a unit on medical ethics, allow readers to explore meaningful issues in great detail, building the vocabulary and background knowledge that will help them excel on the course exam and in college.
What should we be willing to sacrifice for medical advances that can save millions of lives?
How can we honor the dignity and humanity of people who become patients in our medical systems? With these books, students can deeply explore these important questions, sharing knowledge with each other in Socratic seminars and exploring their ideas in writing. You may notice that I've also added a book set on the history of hip-hop that doesn't fit with a unit topic yet but that I think students will love!
Putting physical books into the hands of students lets them immerse themselves in the topics they care about, and extends learning beyond the classroom with stories they can't put down. Thank you for getting these books to these readers!
