My Students
We are a public school arts program serving 140 NYC DOE students annually from diverse backgrounds with 95% avgerage daily attendance. Students participate in pre-conservatory training, preparing them for film school and life long learning in the arts.
Located in Astoria, Queens, our film program offers students access to complex histories and neighborly stories as subjects for narrative and documentary projects.
Similarly, the film students explore programming throughout the school in dance, drama, and other performing arts studios producing documentaries about school performances and individuals within the school community. Film students are curious and resourceful and often initiate cross-disciplinary projects with English and Social Studies classes, providing leadership in media production as they explore career in film production, screenwriting, photography, public relations, marketing, and journalism.
My Project
Our Film Department desperately needs a new projector. We have been using the same projector for many years. Our projector has been used to screen films, rough cuts of student work etc. Over time, the quality of the projected image has significantly declined. As a result, the projected image accuracy is unreliable. During class critiques it is imperative that students get an accurate idea of their work before making the changes. With the current setup a laptop has to be placed in another room where the connection to the projector is. The new projector would not only improve the quality of the projected work, but would also enable us to screen films directly from laptops using wifi signal.
