This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
In my 27 years of teaching I have watched my student come alive when it comes to doing science and especially S.T.E.M projects. They are inquisitive, motivated, engaged and dedicate to completing the tasks that are given to them. When I see the excitement they bring to class, it inspires me to find more challenging projects for them to do. I spend a lot of time researching new lessons to bring to them. I teach both Special Education classes and General education classes. Students who struggle in other subject areas thrive in S.T.E.M class.
My students always step up to the plate in science/S.T.E.M class, from the low level learners to the higher achievers, science/S.T.E.M bridges the gap. They would come to school early just so they could work on their projects.
They would have lunch in my classroom so they could work on their projects.
My Project
As I grow in my knowledge and build in learning about STEM, I place myself in the shoes of my students. I become the students who is intrigued about how things work. What makes that robot move the way it does? How did they get the sneakers to blink with different colored lights? How did they build a model of a house out of cardboard, that has lights that turn off and on. These are the types of questions that I get from my students during our science or STEM classes. This class will help me answer those questions and hopefully many more for my them.
When children show an interest in something it is my job as there teacher to harness it and build on it to keep their interests alive so that one day that can be turned into a career they love.
Everything I learn about in this professional development class will be taught to my students. They will have the opportunity to learn what I learned, do what I do and maybe I will learn something new from them.
