Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Measurement is one of our pre-k objectives. This will be one of the first times many of my children will be exposed to thinking about the length, weight, or volume of an object.
My school is located in a predominantly Hispanic neighborhood.
The students must be in a lower income bracket to qualify for per-k. Many of their parents are either from Hispanic countries or are first generation Americans. My four and five years old come eager and ready to learn about the world around them. They especially love learning through play.
My Project
Measurement is one of the most widely used application in a persons life. It helps a young child understand the world around him. It is the connection between geometry and numbers.
My students will be able to experience hand-on activities, which will help them understand the beginning concepts of measurement. They will be exposed to measurement concepts such as heavy and light, length, and width.
These centers also provide the tools needed to accomplish these objectives.
According to some studies, American children score lower in measurement skills than other math areas.
It is unlikely that children can develop a deep understanding of measurement without hands-on activities such as these centers. These centers are child friendly and will help make learning these concepts active and fun.
