This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

The students in our room are enrolled at an elementary school in Reno, Nevada. The culture of our school is special, and students maintain a high level of academic achievement, gain ample opportunities to work with the arts and have built a pretty amazing culture over the last 50 years.

In our room, students work hard and strive to be on a path to college, career and civic readiness.

All students enjoy working with challenging and complex materials that ensure academic and social success.

My Project

Each item in the cart has been selected to help students with specific math standards. The clocks help with 1.MD.B.3, 2.MD.C.7, 3.MD.A.1, 4.MD.A.1. The square tiles support work around area and perimeter (3.MD.D.8). The circle fraction help in multiple grades (NFA). The place value disks support the understanding of place value. This includes 1.NBT.B.2, 1.NBT.C.4, 2.NBT.A.1, 2.NBT.A.3, 3.NBT.A.1., 4.NBT.A.1, 5.NBT.A.1.

Manipulatives help students bridge work from concrete, to representational to the abstract.

Without manipulatives and doing math in multiple ways, the learning can be compromised. The items in this project help students "see" the math and ensure greater success in this content area.
