My students come to our school because they live in the immediate neighborhood.
Many of them walk or take the bus to get to school every day.
Most of them come from a low income family with only one parent who is struggling to hold the family together. They suffer from low academics, and many suffer from ADHD. They come to learn, but some days it is a struggle to keep them on task. I have to make sure that we are always on the move, and we have a lot of hands-on activities and movements planned for the day.
My Project
My students are very busy bodies and learn better through hands-on learning. They do not like to just sit and listen; they like to be a part of the learning using manipulative to help grasp basic concepts. These hand-on measurement learning centers and learning cards will help my students grasp the basic measuring skills that are needed to be successful in the future. Children also need to know how to sort, graph, and use data. The graphing chart paper will help in teaching my students how to take things they've sorted and graph their information and then use the graph for data purposes.
