Measuring Materials for Visual Learners

Help me give my students visual measurement tools that will help them to understand units of measure in a real-life way.

My Project

This project's goal is to help my students with special needs to master some of the basics of comprehending measurement. I found these amazing visual tools through a colleague, and immediately thought "I have to find a way to get some of these for my students!"

Fractions are such a hard concept to teach-especially when dealing with measuring cups/spoons.

I love that this set of cups actually shapes each cup like it's fractional equivalent (brilliant!). I am also asking for tools to help us measure weight (a bucket balance) and temperature (a set of thermometers). This set of shatterproof graduated cylinders, as well as some funnels and sifters, will be perfect to practice fine motor skills, and filling things with precision. I am also asking for some visual fraction dominoes, which will help kids to practice matching visual representations of a fraction to a written fraction. Finally, I am asking for a graphic novel that can be used to spark interest in fractions. This will be used as part of our STEM instruction next year.
