My students need one measurement kit, measurement bingo, measurement manipulatives, and five measurement books to help build their understanding of measurement.

My Students
Help us measure! My third graders can't tell the difference between a liter and gallon or a centimeter and an inch because we have no curriculum or materials to teach them how!
I am a 3rd grade teacher in a high poverty school in the northwest.
All of my students are on free or reduced school lunch and breakfast. There is a wide range of diversity in our classroom, with seven different native languages being spoken by all of the students.
Despite the challenges of their home lives, all of the students are kind, hard-working, and they have a tremendous desire to learn. Our classroom is a place where they all feel welcome and safe and we treat each other like a family. While there are many obstacles to overcome by the school environment and the linguistic and cultural differences with my students, I personally know that there is no where else that I would rather teach.
My Project
As part of our third grade math standards, we are required to teach our students how to use standard and metric measurement. Unfortunately, our math curriculum doesn't provide us with any materials to teach this unit. I don't personally have the means to purchase all of the resources needed in my classroom. There is also no available funding in our school or district.
In order to help my students understand and learn about measurement, I need assistance in purchasing various measurement materials. To bring this unit to life, my students need hands-on measurement tools such as: liquid measuring cups, teaspoons, measuring tapes, a scale and a balance. With these materials, the students would be able to understand how we can use standard and metric units to measure mass, volume, and height. I could also engage my students through math literature and by playing Measurement Bingo. With these resources I can make teaching this important life skill fun and interactive for my students.
Your donation will help ensure that all of my students are able to experience and learn about measurement with hands-on materials.
With these resources they will build a true understanding of measurement and how it is used in everyday life. They will also discover how engaging and fun learning about math can be. Please help fill our classroom with these wonderful measurement resources that will get my 3rd graders saying, "Measurement Rules!"
