My Students

I teach at a low-income, inner-city school in the heart of a busy downtown. My students come from many different types of homes and extremely diverse family dynamics. For most of my students, this is their first school experience.

My goal this school year is to give my students lots of opportunities to explore and create wonderful things.

Being a S.T.E.A.M. (Science, technology, engineering, art, mathematics) certified school means all learning should be hands-on and extremely engaging, which allows me to be very creative in my teaching style. I'm excited to make learning fun and meaningful for my kindergarteners' first experience attending school.

My Project

There are two areas in my math curriculum where I feel I do not have very good materials to help assist my teaching which is my measurement and shape unit. I would like to have some real life materials to show my students how to measure different things and sort things. These centers are self checking so the students can measure and see if they are correct. The other unit I would like some materials for is our 2-D and 3-D shape unit. I would like students to be able to physically touch the shapes and be able to describe their attributes. Having students be able to touch things helps them to remember what it is they are learning.
