My Students

I teach mathematics and gifted in a public middle school in rural West Virginia. Our school has a strong sense of community. Many of the children have been in classes together since kindergarten. This has allowed them to build a bond in which they both support and challenge one another daily. They are currently working from home and we are meeting virtually to remain connected. The students are very interested in STEM activities and STEM challenges. They are always excited to learn new things. The students are an inquisitive group of 5th - 8th-grade students that collaborate on projects regularly.

My students are a lively and enthusiastic group that loves learning and challenges!

My Project

This 3-D printer will allow my students to bring previously hard to imagine objects and concepts to life! During distance learning, students were learning about scale models. I want to be able to allow students to 3-D a scaled item upon returning to school. Students are required to consider concepts such as scale models and envisioning the size relationship between objects.

With this project, we will be able to use the skills to measure and scale objects, such and then bring those concepts to life!

The project has been carefully put together to include enough materials to keep the students printing all year long! The best way to increase student engagement is to actively involve them in learning!
