Help me give my students an outstanding remote learning experience in Media Arts by getting their teacher an iPad with enough storage to run live demos and multiple apps.
My students are a diverse group of learners at a Title I school just north of Chicago. They are creative and energetic, but many also experience learning struggles in core classroom subjects. This is why they look forward to Media Arts as a class that they can be innovative and successful using creative media!
My students love project-based learning, especially projects that let them creatively explore, express themselves, and tell stories using their imaginations, inspiration from artists, and experiences from their own lives.
Because we are now fully remote, students are working on their iPads to create meaningful projects and share them virtually with their classmates.
My Project
Currently I am teaching Media Arts to 6th, 7th, and 8th graders using an incredible array of hands-on, exciting creative apps from Apple and Adobe. To engage students, I do many live demos on zoom, create tutorials for students on using different features in each app, and create opportunities for virtual collaboration through virtual galleries where students can share their work and give each other feedback.
After one full rotation on zoom, the biggest hurdle I face going into my next rotation of students is not having enough space on my school issued iPad.
Because the students are doing all their work on iPads, I need to make sure my tutorials and demos are all done on iPad. However, because the apps and projects take up so much device space, and I am often using four or more apps at a time given the different grade levels I teach, I am constantly having to offload apps, delete images and videos, and worry about things not working properly because there isn't enough space on my school iPad.
If I had an iPad with more device space, it would be much easier for me to have all my apps, tutorials, and sample projects on the iPad at the same time, while having enough speed and capacity to run my live zoom tutorials and demos without fear of things not working. I could try out new features and project ideas without having to constantly delete files to make space as I am using them.
