Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Our day is full of active, engaging lessons that help students accomplish their academic goals. I want to help my students achieve success and exceed their potential by getting them excited and involved in their learning.

My students are curious, eager to learn, and love being at school!

My school is a Title I school of 368 students with 157 of them being Hispanic. Many of our students are ESOL(English for Speakers of Other Languages) and work very hard to achieve great academic strides. All of our students really love to be at school because they are engaged in a safe, loving, learning environment. My job truly is so very rewarding and the students make teaching easy because they have a strong desire to learn!

My Project

My students will be able to use these mentor texts in many ways to help them understand story elements . My students will participate in Reader's and Writer's Workshop, where the teacher will facilitate mini-lessons, and the students will have independent practice time. The books that I am asking for in this project are called mentor texts. Using mentor texts as examples of good writing will allow students to try new strategies and take risks as demonstrated in the quality literature they are exposed to during these lessons. Additionally, students will be able to explore these mentor texts individually during Reading Workshop and spend time emulating these published authors through independent writing time. These mentor texts will also relate to curriculum, opening up the door for writing to be connected to every area of their world. "It is the supreme art of the teacher to awaken joy in creative expression and knowledge."

The donations from this project will not only expand my classroom library but it will offer my students texts that can relate to and help awaken their own creativity and imagination.

After reading these texts, students will be able to understand the importance of relating to reading and writing. In life, this may be one of the most importance areas to develop strength!
