This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
Math manipulatives—such as counting blocks, number lines, and shapes—allow students to explore mathematical concepts in a tangible way. These tools enable them to visualize abstract ideas, making it easier to grasp foundational skills such as addition, subtraction, and problem-solving. When students can physically manipulate objects, they are more likely to develop a deeper understanding of the relationships between numbers and the operations they perform.
Visual learning complements this approach by catering to various learning styles.
Many first graders are visual learners, meaning they comprehend and remember information better when it is presented in a visual format. Using charts, diagrams, and visual aids alongside manipulatives can help reinforce concepts and make learning more engaging and enjoyable.
By integrating math manipulatives and visual learning strategies into our lessons, we can create a dynamic and interactive learning environment. This approach not only fosters a love for math but also builds confidence in our students as they see their progress and success.
