Help me give my students the opportunity to develop a love of kindergarten during in-person learning for the first time in 10 months. Individual magnetic letter boards, math manipulatives, and recess materials will ensure all students are safe!
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Working in a school with over 900 students, I am blessed to be able to welcome 40 kindergarteners into my classroom each day. My school is made up of more than 70% of English Language Learners and our diverse students speak Spanish, Arabic, Swahili, and over 15 other languages. They come to us from around the globe, ready to learn and to share their cultures and experiences.
My students, in particular, are a part of a newly implemented dual-language program, where their instruction is 50% in English and 50% in Spanish every day.
We learn through thematic units and my students are challenged to read, write, and think critically each and every day. They are scientists, mathematicians, readers, writers, thinkers, and DREAMERS!
My Project
Due to the pandemic, my students are unable to share materials in the classroom. It is our first time returning to school in ten months! With access to individual supplies, they will be able to enhance their literacy, math, and social skills through the use of hands-on learning - all while instilling a love of learning and school!
My goal for these students is to be able to use these materials independently to develop a stronger love for reading, math, and meaningful play, as well as enhance skills in these areas.
