This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
Children graduate from high school with little financial literacy skills. Some teens apply for credit cards and before they even finish college, many young adults are already in DEBT! I want to reach all of my 550 students from Pre-K thru 5th grade and teach them that saving money while they are young can make for a better future!
I will be reading several financial literacy books to my students to get them thinking about how money can work for them.
Some titles include "How to turn $100 into $1,000,000," "Finance 101 for Kids," "The 4 Money Bears," Berenstain Bears Dollars and Sense," and "Investing for Kids."
I will use the color printer to print paper money and colorful savings, spending and investing games and information. The students will play real-life simulation games aimed at teaching them budgeting skills and financial literacy. The two chairs will be added to the simulation games area. Also, I have included a variety of financial literacy books about saving, spending and investing at different reading and interest levels.
I want m students to play financial literacy games so they can learn financial literacy vocabulary and how to actually apply what they learn. By playing these real life situational games my students will gain math, money and critical thinking and decision making skills. Last, I will help my students create their own start-up company using the STEM activity I have in my purchase list. I think that making financial literacy learning fun and engaging for my students is the very BEST way to teach them a life-long skill. I hope to teach them that planning for their future is something they can control!
