My Students
Speed does matter when it comes to reading and my students need to get on the right pace to build their fluency which will improve their comprehension.
I teach a wonderful group of 4th graders at a Title I school which has a large number of students who receive free or reduced lunch.
Although my students are young in age, they are wise in knowledge. My students care about one another and are always looking for ways that they can support those in the classroom as well as the community. Each student is unique and fun to be around. My students especially love to know that others care about them and want them to succeed, which is why they constantly support their classmates as they are working towards their academic goals. My classroom is definitely one that values community learning and my students display that each day with the respect they show toward one another.
My Project
Fluency is a necessary element in the reading development of my students, which is why these resources will enable my students the opportunity to practice their oral reading through Reader's Theater and repeated readings. My students will understand the importance of phrasing and expression as they practice with these kits on a regular basis. They will also gain greater responsibility as they document their growth in their fluency folders, which will build their confidence as they can visually see their growth.
This project is important to donate to because reading fluency is an indispensable key to success with reading comprehension.
