Maximizing Learning with Flexible Seating!

My students need awesome flexible seating options around our classroom to give them a variety of learning spots to choose from.

My Students

Being able to purchase flexible seating choices, will allow my students to learn in their choice of environment and will help them stay focused. I teach at in Charlotte, NC. My school is located in West Charlotte, one of the roughest, poorest and most dangerous areas in Charlotte. My scholars, second graders, have to overcome adversity everyday by simply showing up to school to learn. Too many of our students are homeless, underprivileged and just in need of some love. My job as their teacher is to not only teach them, but to also care for them, love them and encourage them to do their best every single day. Majority of my students start the school year, drastically below grade level in reading and math. It is my job to make sure I not only prepare them for third grade but also to set them up for success for their whole life! Our school has limited funding so I make tons of my own stuff as well purchase many classroom items on my own. I cannot wait to be able to use these seats to help my students get excited about learning!

My Project

Sitting in a chair all day is uncomfortable and not fun! I want to make learning more enjoyable by giving my students options around the room! When students get to choose they will become more invested in their learning. By choosing their own seats like wobble stools, bean bags, bouncy balls and floor seats, students will be focused and ready to learn throughout the entire lesson without being distracted or bored. These seats will particularly be great for students with ADD/ADHD to help them focus while working on tasks. Studies show that if students move while learning then they will retain 80% more of what they were learning; it improves their working memory. These seats will help my kids focus, learn and even make growth.
