My students are creative, curious and motivated. They are a diverse learning community that works together and are motivated to learn together. The students are of various abilities and socioeconomic backgrounds and they enjoy learning together and playing together.
Students of all abilities work together in our inclusive classroom.
The students work together, learn together and have fun together in our classroom. They are motivated by choice and engaged when they can incorporate movement into their learning. The new seating options will achieve both of these goals. Having organized materials and new magnetic blocks will allow the students to work on managing their materials independently and allow them to play together.
My Project
This year I will be introducing flexible seating in my classroom. New research has been released that shows many of the benefits that flexible seating provides. Some of those benefits include burning more calories, using up excess energy, improving metabolism, increased motivation and engagement, creating a better oxygen flow to the brain, and improving core strength and overall posture. Did you know that physical activity is linked to higher academic performance, better health, and improved behavior? It does! My students will use the wobble chairs, balls, cushions and stools to get movement they need while they are working on tasks during Daily 5 and using a math structure called BUILD.
BUILD allows me to provide necessary math intervention and enrichment for my students.
BUILD is a new math structure which allows students to engage in small group activities. During this time, math instruction is provided to smaller groups of students to maximize student learning. The students need bins to store materials to make materials accessible and to organize our materials. BUILD also helps to support and facilitate student independence by allowing the students to manage their materials.
The students will also benefit from adding magnet blocks to their free choice items. These blocks will allow the students to work on social skills and will facilitate group play. When students are empowered with choices, they are motivated to work hard. Flexible seating and organized materials allow them to make choices in their learning and in their seating options. We differentiate our instruction to meet the needs of all learners, we can also differentiate our seating choices to allow students to use the option that is best for them.
