My Project
My students learn about the world through non-fiction texts, literature, and graphic novels. In addition to Kindred, a graphic novelization of Octavia Butler's classic, I would like to share the non-fiction graphic novel Maus to compare how the medium (graphic novels) can be varied depending on the genre and topic.
Students are always so excited to pick up a graphic novel.
Hesitant readers and avid readers alike are drawn to the text and images and our best discussions come from pairing the novels with research, essays, and novels. This award-winning novel is the superlative of all that is important about the form and I cannot wait to share it with students.
