My Project
I teach ninth-grade English at an arts school in Charleston, South Carolina, so all my students are majoring in one of nine arts areas. They are passionate pupils, who are always looking for ways to find their art in the literature we study.
Maus, the graphic novel by American cartoonist Art Spiegelman, is a powerful example of visual art that meets literature with power and purpose.
The genre of the graphic novel is pertinent and accessible to all my students. They are excited about the prospect of reading these texts, along with other Holocaust literature during this unit.
