This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Our school district has a high ELL population. In the elementary school (pre-K – 4), 73% are ELL students. As of 2018, 60% of our students receive free lunch and 20% receive reduced lunch. Our community has two large manufacture plants and large farms that attract families to the area.
Our students are diverse.
They have different cultural backgrounds and families. We have students from different cultures and they learn to assimilate in our school environment. Our students range in ability as well. We have students with different academic, physical, and emotional needs and we encourage inclusion and understanding with all of our students.
My Project
In my room this year, we have one mat that we use for both under the womb swing and to block off learning areas.
We could greatly use three more mats to support student learning in more than one way.
The mats would be used for dividing up space in my room to enhance 1:1 learning and minimize distractions. They would also be used as a replacement rug since we are not allowed to use rugs this year and most likely next year as well. These mats are easy to sanitize and the students love them.
