Mathmagical Bags

My students need math materials such as dice, games, and books to take home and practice. 85% of our students qualify for free lunch. Their parents want to help with school work but need resources.

My Students

Didn't you love game night when you were growing up? So did I. The kids I teach don't get this opportunity. My students don't own games that teach math skills. Their parents barely make ends meet. Extras like math games and books are nonexistent in many homes in this neighborhood.

At our school students are enthusiastic about learning.

The staff here tries to meet each student emotionally, academically and physically. Kids come to school with many challenges before they hit our doors. Many are English Language Learners. Many have not had positive role models. Many get themselves to second grade every day. Many have parents who do not know how to support the learning of 7 and 8 year olds. Parents say they want to help but don't know how or have the tools to help student succeed. Math games can be a great way to build families and school skills. By incorporating literature and math games students and parents see the real life reasons for math.

My Project

I will put together take home bags for families to enjoy together. Each kit will include a book and math activities to enjoy and explore together. All materials will be provided. Students will check out a kit for a week at a time to delve deeply into the activities and literature included. The kits will cover a wide range of math skills, measurement, geometry, number sense, multiplication, telling time and learning those basic facts in a fun real life way. My hope is students and parents will learn math skills but more importantly how to enjoy each other, spending time away from electronic devices. By providing quality literature and worthwhile math activities students will have more positive attitudes toward math. These kits will also foster more mathematical skills at their level in interest.

Your donation will make a difference in the lives of numerous families and students who desperately need assistance in many areas.

This one thing can help in several ways. Our families are appreciative of the help we give them.
