“Teaching in the Internet age means we must teach tomorrow’s skills today.” – Jennifer Fleming
In our classroom, we hold Math Workshop 2 to 3 times per week. In our Workshop time, students are in small groups, stations, or independent. I want to make Math Workshop more engaging with technology.
While many of my students come from humble beginnings, they are excited about school and eager to learn.
My students are hard working and, like many students today, they love technology. Technology is engaging and can provide an avenue for problem solving like nothing else.
My school is a Title I STEM Middle School, meaning that we are dedicated to developing the ideas of science, technology, engineering, and math within our students. We want them to see how these ideas can help them to change the world. I am eager to contribute to our STEM philosophy and vision through this project
My Project
The main use for the touch screen tablet and case is to motivate students through the use of technology. I will incorporate the tablet into our Math Workshop time through math stations that students use in small group settings. I have created some task cards for my students that include QR codes for them to self check their answers using a scanner on the tablet. Math apps will help our students develop fact fluency while our school adopted programs such as Manga High and IXL focus on specific standard based instruction. The tablet will help us achieve in all of these areas by providing another route for students to connect to the Internet and access information.
The addition of this tablet into our classroom and our Math Workshop routine will be beneficial by providing students an engaging and motivating way to learn math.
Students love a reason to access technology, especially in school. This project will allow them the use of technology while also building skills necessary for success.
