The items requested would make a significant difference in my students' learning. Since I will be having a lot of the same students again this upcoming school year, I am familiar with how to cater to their learning needs. With this advantage, I feel confident that requesting these items for my students would increase their interest in math and in learning.
Student understanding and engagement are bound to be improved if the students are provided with tools that can be thoughtfully utilized.
Formative assessment is a huge part of informing my instruction, and using individual white boards for this purpose is not only convenient for my students, but also for me. Students would also use the individual white boards when in centers to share their work with others. The white boards provide a space for students to map out their thinking without creating additional papers to be tucked into their folders, or stuffed into the garbage.
As a class display, the jumbo magnetic grid would be the perfect addition to my math classroom. It would allow for students to visualize lining up digits according to place value when multiplying and dividing larger numbers, as well as to clearly see the process of graphing coordinates. The smaller graph paper would serve the same purpose, but on an individual level. The place value dry erase mats would truly benefit learners who require scaffolding. In fifth grade, there is a huge focus on place value and graphing, and I know that these materials would enhance the learning experience of my students.
