My students need books to help them relate to math topics taught in Kindergarten. Quack and Count, Math Big Book Favorites and Math Stories library will be a great start.
This year my classroom is very full, there are 27 students that come from many different cultures and speak different languages. They are eager to learn any way they can. My classroom is a very busy place where kids thrive with the people and items around them.
These kids are a great group of five year olds.
For a majority of my class, kindergarten is their first formal school experience away from home. They are nervous and excited at they same time. They are learning new things every day and are eager to come back the next day to learn more. My school is a very small school compared to others in our district which is great. We really get to know each and every child in our school. My students come from families that may not have the resources to provide as many reading experiences as other families.
Many of my students are learning English for the first time and may not have any family members that speak English.
My Project
Having these great books both big books and regular books for the students to access will be a huge step in getting these math concepts across in a different way than just numbers. Students learn in a variety of ways and having the Big Book collection of math titles and the the Paperback Library Collection of math stories as well as all the other titles will help make learning math fun. hey will be able to relate to things like "Animals on Board" and "One is a Snail, Ten is a Crab." Kids will have a variety of books to have in their hands all throughout the day. They can be thinking of math during reading time too.
These books will be a great addition to my classroom library.
I lack books about math topics, these are essential skills for kids to master in Kindergarten. These books will help the kids get one step closer to being prepared for 1st Grade. The more books I can get in the hands of my students the better off they will be. Being able to show them a big book with great pictures to help explain a strategy will be great for my English Language Learners. Thank you in advance for helping my students!
