My students need a classroom rug for small group instruction. They also need a magnetic math library for workstations and math manipulatives for several class centers. They are also in need of seat back pockets.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I'm a math teacher in a low income, high poverty school with students from different backgrounds and mostly underprivileged or at risk. Recently our city was impacted by Hurricane Harvey and some of my students experienced tremendous losses. Some have lost their home and school supplies. Despite the recent devastation, they come to school eager to learn and show interest in their education.
I want them to be successful in school because I know they are capable of so much.
I don't want the experience of the recent storm to bring them down or determine their future. I want to make a difference in their lives by providing them with an education that will challenge and sharpen their knowledge.
My Project
The materials and manipulatives requested are needed for my fourth graders to be successful in math class.
The large carpet will be placed in the front of the classroom and used as a gathering place during mini-lessons, direct instruction and share time.
The dry erase markers, write and wipe pockets, math magnetic library and other supplies will be used by the students in their workstations. The organizational baskets will be placed on the shelves in the back of our classroom for students to find centers easily. Since I teach three math classes, the back seat pockets will be used for rotating students, who don't have enough space to place their materials in.
