Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are amazing. As the year progressed I got to see by students develop into readers, writers, math mathematicians, and critical thinkers. Every day my students arrive with a ready smile and eager to learn, so excited to learn new content in their native language.
"Education is the ticket to success." ~Jaime Escalante
The demographics of my school are as follows: 100% of our students receive free breakfast and lunch, 90% percent of my students were identified as Hispanic or Latino upon entry to school. For the majority of my students Spanish is their native tongue. For that reason our school is currently following an Early Exit Model to first teach students in their native language and then support English as their second language in a scaffolded method.
My Project
My students are in need of some math manipulatives that will increase both their math skills and their fine motor skills. Many of my students entered kinder with low fine motors skills although this might be a little bump I know that with hands-on manipulatives my students will excel in math and their fine motor skills will be enhanced because of your generosity. The Unlock-It number match, the Nuts and Bolts, and Twizers will not only help my students become better mathematicians through hands on learning but they will also develop strong fine motor skills.
"Fine motor skills have a significant impact on later math, reading, and science achievement."
These manipulatives will be used frequently by my students in our math centers, and during indoor recess which is quickly approaching us. I much rather have my students use manipulatives than to watch a movie during our indoor recess time.
