Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are 28 amazing dual fourth graders that love to read, learn about mathematical concepts, and are incredible at being innovators in science. My students are inquirers and love to explore their inquisitive thoughts they have about the world around them. They like to make sense of the world by researching their questions they might be curious to find out about. They are the pioneers of the dual immersion program at the school and they come from culturally diverse backgrounds.

My Project

I would like to have Spanish books for our STEM learning in our classroom. My students would benefit from having math books in Spanish and English about mathematical and science concepts to help them get a better understanding and to continue their investigations based on their curiosities about the world. I want my students to have ample opportunities to do so in the classroom so they can also become lifelong learners and readers. By giving my students choice about what they want to investigate, I hope my students will become well rounded individuals that are learning about how things work while at the same time embedding the informational standards students are learning. This will encourage them to read more and perhaps become a mathematician or future scientist.

I personally love STEM opportunities because students learn so much such as, fostering ingenuity and creativity, encouraging teamwork, knowledge application, technology use, problem solving, and more.

Oftentimes, it is rather challenging to find authentic Spanish books that will indeed help meet the needs of my students that are Spanish speakers and English speakers but these books will help create a variety of reading choices for my students to explore and inquiry about.
